The Walpole Lectures announce EU and FDA to participate in pharmaceutical anti-counterfeiting lecture

Friday, May 14th, 2010

This year’s Walpole Lectures will commence on June 24th, with the opening session asking ‘To what extent can pharmaceutical counterfeiting ever be contained?’

The online web seminar will bring together leading pharmaceutical experts and governing bodies to discuss the battle against counterfeit medicines.

Confirmed speakers for the session include Marisa Matias, the MEP and rapporteur for counterfeit medicines in the European Parliament, as well as the FDA and the MHRA.

In recent years the rise in high-profile seizures of counterfeit drugs has served to highlight the unprecedented pressure on the drugs value chain.  This Walpole Lecture will assess the current initiatives in place to address the issue, analyse the impact of legislative changes, the potential offered by technological developments and the opportunity for further international collaboration to combat the problem

“The Walpole Lectures provide a great opportunity to engage a global audience in highly topical and compelling discussions” said Thomas Boughton, MarketKey Commercial Director and Walpole Lecture Leader, adding “We’re particularly excited by the opening session this year.  With both the EU and the FDA getting involved, the lecture will provide real insight into the international response to pharmaceutical counterfeiting and the legislative amendments that have been taking place.”

The session takes place on June 24th at 3pm UK, 4pm European Summer Time, and 10am USA Eastern.  Registration is free, but places are limited.
